In loving memory of Michaela (Chaela) Dawn Rambo

Why do I need your support?

On November 3, 1995, my beloved sister, my only sibling, Michaela (Chaela) Dawn Rambo was tragically taken from this world less than two months after her 19th birthday.

A driver, over the legal blood-alcohol limit, hit her head-on. Though she was wearing her seatbelt, and the airbag deployed, she did not survive the collision. The driver of the other vehicle also died at the scene, leaving a family of his own.

At barely 19 years old, my sister had just begun to experience life. She was seeking to extend her education, she had started traveling to see the rest of world. In an instant that all changed, because of the mistake someone else had made.

I am asking for your support to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), to prevent further tragic losses of lives like these.

What is Walk Like MADD?

Walk Like MADD is a 5K walk that raises funds to save lives. Every step taken, and pledge made, will help raise funds and awareness for MADD’s programs and services that will serve to make our communities safer.

As there is no Seattle walk, I will be a "virtual walker" for the Phoenix walk, where my Mom will be actively participating. I’m asking that you make a donation, to help support the cause.

How the Walk Helps

Unlike most others, the MADD cause doesn’t need a cure; it already exists. It’s you and me, our friends, our neighbors, our co-workers. It’s all of us choosing to drive sober, calling a cab, or designating a driver if we drink alcohol.

The money raised from this walk goes to:

- Support programs to help victims cope with their tragedy and loss of a loved one at no charge.

- Legal support to victims as they go through the judicial process.

- Equipment to local police to better detect and arrest drunk drivers.

- Educational programs to limit youth alcohol use among elementary, middle school, high school, and college students.

MADD needs our support, please donate to help prevent more loss of life, like the life of my sister.

My family and I thank you for honoring the memory of our beloved Chaela.

I'll take you up on that.

My nights are occasionally haunted by what I saw one night in Fayetteville, Arkansas, about 15 years ago.

I happened upon a traffic accident on a dark road, in what most of you would regard as a rural area, actually right in town.

A car full of six teen-agers, partying after the prom, had run head on into a pickup truck. No emergency services had even been called yet.

It was a ghastly scene. If I described what I saw, well it would give you nightmares too. Pathetic, avoidable devastation. Six families damaged for life.

Someone named Conni has also donated, but I'm not sure if she is in the guild. Is there a Conni here? If so, thank you very much for your donation! You're supporting a great cause.
